Wilderness Sauna
A hut, a stove, a lake
A hut, a wood stove, a lake or a river, and nothing else. No changing rooms, no attendant, no other party at seven o'clock. You are handed a key or walked in, and then it is yours for the evening.
Getting there is part of it and is rarely a car park. Snowshoes, a sled, a snowmobile, a short walk through forest with a head torch — twenty minutes of effort that does more for the evening than any amount of interior design.
You do the work. You feed the stove, you fetch the water, you cut the hole in the ice or find the one somebody cut yesterday. That is not a rustic flourish; it is what makes the heat feel earned rather than bought.
