Wild Camp Night

One night, almost anywhere

The right of public access allows one night's camping on uncultivated land almost anywhere in Sweden, without asking anybody. That single fact is why this is an ordinary thing here and an administrative problem almost everywhere else.

What we arrange is that, done properly: a site chosen for wind and water rather than for a view on a map, a camp set up before you arrive, a fire where fires are permitted, and food cooked on it.

The rules are short and worth knowing. Not within sight of a house, not on a field or a garden, one night not three, no damage to living trees, and everything leaves with you. Fire bans are common in dry summers and are absolute.

June to September, and no dark

June to September. In June and July in the north it does not get dark, which removes the part of camping most people are apprehensive about and replaces it with the problem of sleeping in daylight.

Mosquitoes are the honest drawback and they are worst in July inland. The coast and the archipelago are far better, and a breeze does more than any spray.

You can have as much or as little of it as you want — from a proper tent and a fire you tend yourself, to a camp somebody else strikes in the morning while you have breakfast. We would gently suggest the first.
