Dog Sledding
Do you drive, or are you driven?
There are two versions of this and they are not the same holiday. In one you sit in a sledge under a blanket while somebody else drives. In the other you stand on the runners of your own team and drive it yourself, which is what we arrange unless you ask otherwise.
Driving is physical. You are not a passenger and the dogs know it — you brake on the downhills, you get off and run on the climbs, and you hold the sledge upright on a camber with your own weight.
It is also loud before it is quiet. A yard of dogs waiting to go is the noisiest thing in Lapland. The moment the brake comes up the noise stops completely, and that switch is the thing every first-timer remembers.
