Thirty thousand islands, no tide
Thirty thousand islands, almost no tide, and sheltered water nearly all the way out — which is why this is one of the easiest serious cruising grounds in Europe and why Swedes sail here in numbers that would be unthinkable in open sea.
The navigation is the interesting part. It is pilotage rather than passage-making: you are reading marks, transits and a chart at close quarters, deciding between two gaps a hundred metres apart, and the depth changes faster than the wind does.
With a skipper you can do as much or as little of that as you like. Most guests start by watching, take the helm on the second day, and are picking the anchorage by the fourth.
